Competency Training
At Klein Karoo Sniper, we provide accredited firearm training designed for responsible firearm ownership, self-defence, hunting, sport shooting, and business purposes. Our courses combine legal knowledge, practical firearm handling, and safe operational training to help clients complete their competency requirements with confidence.

Basic / Private Use Unit Standards
People who would like to license a firearm for self-defence, hunting or private use needs to complete the Knowledge of the Act (U/S 117705), and the basic unit standard for the firearm they wish to license.
Knowledge of the Firearms Control act 60/2000
Required for firearm specific Unit standards and when applying for a SAPS Competency Certificate. This will demonstrate understanding of the duties and obligations of firearm ownership as contained in the Act
Handle and use A Handgun
Required when applying for Competency for a Handgun
This unit standard is for anyone who wants to privately use a handgun and or who requires a Competency Certificate in terms of relevant legislation.
Handle and use A Self-Loading Rifle or Carbine
Required when applying for Competency for a Self-Loading Rifle or Carbine
This unit standard is for anyone who privately wants to use a self-loading rifle or carbine and or who requires a Competency Certificate in terms of relevant legislation.
Handle and use A Manually Operated Rifle or Carbine
Required when applying for Competency for a Manually Operated Rifle or Carbine
This unit standard is for anyone who privately wants to use a manually operated rifle or carbine and or who requires a Competency Certificate in terms of relevant legislation.
Handle and use A Shotgun
Required when applying for Competency for a Shotgun
This unit standard is for anyone who privately wants to use a shotgun and or who requires a Competency Certificate in terms of relevant legislation.
Business Purpose Unit Standard
The business purposes unit standards are for people who will, handle and use a firearm within a business environment. This may include security personnel, Law Enforcement, armed response guards and personnel working in gun-shops. The Basic Unit Standard must be completed before doing Business purpose of the specific unit standard.

Mandatory yearly refresher training for security officers
